Introduction

2020 has been a time for many changes and challenges for perhaps everyone. For us, our usual backup resources became unavailable or inefficient — eating out, picking up pre-cooked food at the deli counter or OSOZAI (お惣菜) at the local supermarket or department store basement. We desperately needed to re-engineer the way things were done around the house, and as a consultant, I was determined to make improvements to our lifestyle.

Until 2020, every time we were too busy/tired/lazy to cook, we ate out. All our weekday lunches were outside, and most of our weekday dinners were as well. I didn’t realize just how much until one day when I DID make a simple supper at home, my entire family exclaimed, “YAY! Home food!!”.

Now, with most of us at home most of the time, it meant that three meals per day needed to be prepared. To complicate things further, I, and the rest of my family, are fussy about eating, so instant noodles weren’t going to be a sustainable option.

Reflecting just how much our lives improved over the past year, both in health and quality of life, I thought that some of these ideas might benefit other busy people too. The geek side of me was also getting excited about being able to justify investing in new gadgets!

In these notes, I would like to share these with you with the hope that it can save you time & effort without sacrificing the outcome too much — so that you can focus on what is more important!
